Neosho County has an area of 576 square miles and a population of 16,125. Neosho County was originally organized in 1864. The county seat, Erie. The county was originally called Dorn and changed in 1861 to Neosho after the river traverses the county from northwest to southeast. The name was given to the river by the Osages.
